Horse Knowledge Competitions

HIPPOLOGY

Project Objective: Hippology is “the study of the horse”. This is a horse knowledge competition. You do not need to own a horse to participate. As a team or individual you will compete by completing a written test, an ID station, and a team/hands-on Q&A portion– all related to general horse knowledge. 

Project Meetings: We meet in Princeton on Wednesdays at 6:30- 8pm from November to January. We will start back again after the new year to prepare for competition in April. You may participate in practices with the team even if you do not plan to compete.

Equipment/Cost: None for practices; Minimal fee to register for competitions

Competitions: 

Fort Worth Stock Show ‘Equine IQ’- January (open to all age categories)
San Antonio Stock Show ‘Horse Skill-a-thon’- February (open to all ages)
State Round-Up in June (Intermediate & Seniors only)
Possible Invitational Contest- TBD


HORSE QUIZ BOWL

Project Objectives: This project is a “horse knowledge” competition. You do not need to own a horse to participate. This is a team competition where you are asked horse related questions and you must buzz in, before the other team, with your answer. You may participate in practices with the team even if you do not plan to compete.

Project Meetings: We meet in Princeton on Wednesdays at 6:30- 8pm from September to October. We will start back again after the new year to prepare for competition in April.

HORSE SHOW

Project Objective: Learn how to show your horse in various events. 4-H will require you to compete with your own horse at District and State events. However, we will take field trips to local shows to observe and learn about showing, so you can join us for these events even if you do not own a horse.

Project Meetings: Various opportunities throughout the year

Equipment/Cost: None for field trips; Horse Show Competition costs will depend on show and will be at your own expense
